We consider ourselves very fortunate to have the kind of access to creative and influential people, because it allows us the opportunity to pick their brains a bit. Here is where we showcase those interactions, whether it be an artist review, an album review, or a recap of a particularly invigorating experience....this is the documentation of that genuine inspiration.
April 20th is an enormously celebrated holiday for the Mile High City as the bustling spring weekend fills Denver with block parties, drink and food specials at restaurants all across town, and of course, awesome music for the bass capital. That being said, if the annual HDYFEST trap music party at Red Rocks with Flosstradamus and What So Not doesn’t suit your fancy there are always more options for those who still crave their dance music fix.
Kicking the 2017 year off strong, we start our festival journey in the Southwest region of the country with Gem and Jam Music Festival. The eleventh annual festival located in the heart of Tucson, AZ takes place February 2nd-5th, and this year things are heating up more than ever. With masters of hip-hop-funk Gramatik, The Floozies, and Lotus headlining the festival, Arizona will host one of the most notoriously funk-worthy festivals of the year--and that’s not all that's in store for funk-lovers alike. Phish bassist Mike Gordon, several members of the String Cheese Incident, G-Jones, OPIUO, The Russ Liquid Test, and more fill out the lineup making the 2017 Gem and Jam fest one of the best they've ever had. The festival also includes both on and off-site camping each night, and for all of us Coloradans getting buried under snow, Gem and Jam sounds like the perfect place to trade up the bitter cold for the warmth, light, and music for a few days. With electro-dubstep becoming increasingly popular across the country, it’s no surprise that the best of the best are back in the bass capital and sweeping the nation by a storm with their newest rendition of a Christmas tour. Circus Records, the independent UK music record established in 2009 in by Joshua “Flux Pavilion” Steele, Shaun “Doctor P” Brockhurst, Simon Swan, and Earl Falconer, has been one of the leading dubstep and drum and bass labels in the industry for over five years, and Colorado Culture’s Madison Shea and Elyza Desiree had the privilege to sit down and chat with some of it’s leading artists. With Steele leading the interview, alongside Tony “Cookie Monsta” Cook and DISKORD (a newer addition to Circus Records’ powerhouse focusing on heavy trap and dub) we had the opportunity to discuss the upcoming musical plans and direction for the crew, what their comeback means to them, and more.
