Take Note Colorado: Music for Education (Review)

Take Note Colorado: Music for Education (Review)

The Take Note Colorado concert was Governor Hickenlooper’s kick off for his music initiative to improve and increase children’s access to musical education.  “Twenty years from now, people are going to say, ‘Were you at that first Take Note concert?’ And you’ll say, ‘Yeah! I was there,’ ” Hickenlooper said to the crowd.  With high hopes, the 1STBANK Center was about two thirds full, packed with people who came together for education and to see some of their favorite artists perform some of their greatest hits.

Music for a Cause: Take Note Colorado 5/4/2017 1STBANK Center Broomfield, CO

Music for a Cause: Take Note Colorado 5/4/2017 1STBANK Center Broomfield, CO

Over the past few years, Colorado natives Nathaniel Rateliff & the Night Sweats have made a big name for themselves. Selling over 700,000 albums, the band still hasn’t lost their passion for the Colorado music scene. They will be performing for Take Note Colorado, a concert benefiting music education for Colorado schools.  All proceeds for the show will go to the Colorado Music Coalition, a new nonprofit group dedicated to promoting music education throughout the state.  The coalition is working directly with Governor Hickenlooper as part of his new music initiative. Fueled by his own love for music, the governor hopes to improve music education to inspire future musicians.

Take Note Colorado will be working with a variety of donors as well as musicians.  It is something that no other state has done, and Governor Hickenlooper hopes that Colorado can serve as a model for the nation as a whole.  With art programs depleting in schools, music education is often the first to be cut even though studies suggest that children who participate in music have higher academic success and lower dropout rates.  For some, music can be a creative outlet or an extracurricular activity.  For others, music is everything, a part of life.

With incentive to preserve Colorado’s music scene, Colorado-bred bands are coming together to raise funding. Along with Nathaniel Rateliff & The Night Sweats, the show will feature OneRepublic, Isaac Slade of The Fray, Todd Park Mohr, Bill Nershi of The String Cheese Incident, Tracksuit Wedding, and Josh Blue. Hoping to raise $500,000, the money will go to getting instruments and instruction for K-12 Colorado schools.  Their goal is to make sure that every child has access to music education and have the opportunity to start pursuing their dreams.

Working with several Colorado celebrities, Isaac Slade of The Fray is a chairman for the coalition.  Fueled by his own childhood experiences playing, Slade works to bring together musicians, politicians, and donors, serving as a role model for his own son who has picked up a love for the drums.  On the political side of the spectrum, daughter of a billionaire family Libby Anschutz is dedicated to the cause.  Wanting to play music since she was young, Anschutz now performs with Tracksuit Wedding who will play at the concert.  With the dedication of all those involved, Colorado has a chance to make history with its musical culture, starting with every child that wants to play.

The Take Note Colorado concert will be held May 4th at the 1STBank Center in Broomfield. Doors open at 6:30 and the show will begin at 7:30.  Tickets are $25-$55 and can be found HERE.  VIP passes are $250 and include premium seating, early entry, dinner, and a hosted bar.

National Park Week: Protecting Colorado's Natural Beauty

National Park Week: Protecting Colorado's Natural Beauty

There is a moment when in the wilderness where everything is quiet except for the sounds of nature.  The warm breeze blows through the tree, birds chirp cheerfully, and wildlife rustles through the bushes.  These sounds are peaceful, a testament to the power and beauty in nature.   There is a quietness that lets the mind relax, and a feeling of true serenity.  Most Coloradans would agree that this is a feeling worth protecting, something that can only be found in the outdoors.

A Look at Fabric London & #SaveLondon

A Look at Fabric London & #SaveLondon
Fabric London has been known as one of the most renowned night clubs in the world since its opening in late 1999. With a capacity of 2500 people and three separate rooms (two dedicated to live act's) it has hosted the largest act's in dance music over its seventeen year history. Some of the largest names in the game have seen their start there since it's conception including french electro duo Justice and German techno heavy weight Boys Noize. Starting in 2001 Fabric started an iconic monthly live mix series entitled "FABRICLIVE". Gem and Jam Festival: February 2nd-5th 2017 Tucson, AZ

Gem and Jam Festival: February 2nd-5th 2017 Tucson, AZ

Kicking the 2017 year off strong, we start our festival journey in the Southwest region of the country with Gem and Jam Music Festival. The eleventh annual festival located in the heart of Tucson, AZ takes place February 2nd-5th, and this year things are heating up more than ever. With masters of hip-hop-funk Gramatik, The Floozies, and Lotus headlining the festival, Arizona will host one of the most notoriously funk-worthy festivals of the year--and that’s not all that's in store for funk-lovers alike. Phish bassist Mike Gordon, several members of the String Cheese Incident, G-Jones, OPIUO, The Russ Liquid Test, and more fill out the lineup making the 2017 Gem and Jam fest one of the best they've ever had. The festival also includes both on and off-site camping each night, and for all of us Coloradans getting buried under snow, Gem and Jam sounds like the perfect place to trade up the bitter cold for the warmth, light, and music for a few days. Higher Society New Years Eve Feat. Stooki Sound and Alex and Allison Grey

Higher Society New Years Eve Feat. Stooki Sound and Alex and Allison Grey

With so many options available on New Year’s Eve, when choosing your activity you have so many things to consider.  Company, venue (if you’re the extroverted type), music, etc.  And especially in a place like Denver, where the options on said holiday are virtually limitless, it’s paramount that you choose wisely.

Decadence was clearly the main show in town.  That’s no secret, and hasn’t been for quite some time.  But for those interested in taking in a show within a bit more intimate of a venue, the homies over at SOCO Nightlife District and Souls in Action Entertainment set up something which turned out to be quite the treat.  With an eclectic lineup featuring a bevy of different visual and musical artists, the New Year’s Eve party they hosted at City Hall stood in stark contrast to the rest of the parties taking place that night.  Amongst the variety of influences present in the lineup however, two luminaries stand out above the others: I’m talking of course about artist Alex Grey and London’s own Stooki Sound.
